One of the wines I didn't want to miss even if it was still unbottled was the 2016 Viña El Pisón, Artadi's top of the range. It's young and tender, a more ethereal vintage with a vibrant palate, and even in a raw tank sample (after eight months in barrel), the wine is extremely open, expressive, clean and approachable, with a lot less oak than in the past. There will be 6,000 bottles of the 2016. They expect to bottle it in June/July 2018, and the wine will be released toward the end of 2018. I will try to taste it again from bottle before it hits the shelves. It could be one of the finest recent vintages of El Pisón, in a slightly different style. It will be fascinating to follow the development of the 2015 and 2016 together...
