Terraprima launched her first wines in 2010: Some 5 years ago, Carlos Esteva, owner of therenowned Can Ràfols dels Caus Estate, had to fightagainst plans for a mining project in the valley next tohis Estate. The mining activities would have had anegative impact on the growing conditions in hisvineyards and would have destroyed the uniquelandscape next to the Estate and the protectedGarraf National Park. Carlos saved the valley fromdestruction, but was then obliged to take over theland from the mining company. He started to take careof the 45 ha. of existing vineyards and adapted his wineryto receive and vinify the new grapes. The composition of the soil of this rocky valley makes itpossible to produce fresh, mineral wines, which areunique for Spain. After the successful creation of MasOller in the Empordà, Carlos teamed up once more withPeter Schoonbrood and wine maker Anna Baqués tocreate modern and innovative wines from the grapes.TerraPrima, the name given to the wines, reflects theuniqueness of the land .
