The red wine, the 2014 Zerran is made primarily from Old Vine Grenache and Carignan, with some younger-vine Syrah in the mix. Coming from a high elevation vineyard at 1,500-1,800 feet above sea level, the wine is aged ten months in two- to three-year-old French oak barrels prior to bottling. This shows plenty of damp earth, new saddle leather, black cherry and black currant fruit with licorice, kirsch and wet stones. It is medium-bodied and an excellent value.
