The Wine Advocate I Jan 31, 2023 I Luis Gutiérrez
There's a little more concentration, tannin and rusticity in the 2019 Dominio de Atauta, reflecting the conditions of a warmer and drier year. This selection matured for 16 months in French oak barrels, 15% of them new, followed by a couple of months in oak vats to let the wine settle before being bottled.
Dominio de Atauta is one of the leading producers in the Soria zone of Ribera del Duero, where they own 24 hectares of vines and control a further 32—in total, more than 700 small plots of very old vines in the Atauta Valley. They do an organic and biodynamic viticulture (not certified). Production varies between 60,000 and 120,000 bottles, depending on the conditions of the vintage. The sister project, Atalayas de Golbán (although it's better known by their brand la Celestina), is also part of Dominio de Atauta, and it represents a further 40 hectares of controlled vineyards and 300,000 bottles.
