The 2015 El Puntido was produced with Tempranillo grapes from their highest-altitude vineyard in the village of Páganos in Rioja Alavesa. Fermentation was traditional, destemmed and in stainless steel with yeasts selected from the vineyard. This tends to be quite ripe, and the élevage in new barrique for 18 months makes it smoky, spicy and toasty, with a creamy/luxurious twist. But it's also floral and expressive, following the general trend I saw of wines with better integrated oak. It also shows the profile of the 2015s, with good ripeness but keeping very good freshness, and the quality of the tannins is very good and provide a bit of a chalky texture and a dry, serious finish. It has weight and freshness.

Viñedos de Páganos is the newest of the projects from the Eguren family in Rioja, as it was created in 1998 replicating the wineries from the 16th century with the base of 45 hectares of vines planted in 1975.
